If God ever decide to sing, he would do so in the voice of Hemant Kumar - Salil Choudhary

Sunday Chitrahaar Quiz No 3. is here. This time the quiz is a tribute to Hemant Kumar Mukherjee (death anniv 26th september), one of the finest composers and singers of Indian Film Industry. The magician of haunting melodies... His heavenly voice and magical tunes can hypnotize any listener and take him to another world.

A singer with special baritone voice, you can be mesmerized with his songs as if a saint or fakeer is singing nearby. Although his baritone was considered a perfect voice for devotional songs, he had all kinds of songs, soft-romantic, comic, sad, haunting, chhed-chhad, and devotional songs... featured on actors like Dev Anand, Pradeep Kumar, Dharmendra, Gurudutt, Biswajeet and even Mehmood.

As a composer, a master craftsman weaving his melodies around rabindra sangeet, traditional devotional and folk music and later introducing the electronic music in HFM. He has given us some of the finest haunting melodies of HFM. A fine composer and perfect voice for conveying the sound of silences... Was he a better singer or composer, the argument continues.. Kaifi Azmi has put it best

Can't decide if Hemant Kumar impressed me more as a good singer, a music director or by just begin a good human being. Maybe a combination of all three aspects is what made Hemant Kumar.” - Kaifi

He had some of the memorable songs for Dev Anand and some of the finest compositions for Lata Mangeshkar (no examples since the quiz is open). Since Dev Anand (26th) and Lata Mangeshkar (28th) shares birthday in this week only and have special place in songs and compositions of Hemant da, a major chunk of the quiz features these two legends.
