Music Review
aks - the reflection
by Pavan Jha

Even after Big B's charismatic presence and promising charaterisation [by a new kid on the block, Rakesh Mehra], Aks reamins one of the least hyped films of this year.... The promos [and specifically Big B] does succeed in generating interest for the film, but the music falls short of the expectation.... A big disappointment... The music as a seperate product fails to impress..... still it might prove to be a plus point for the film... None of the song has a feel good appeal, which keeps your interest live for the film, rather than diverting..... The songs could prove to be tightly coupled with the storyline, well that we'll know only after the release of the film. The film certainely looks like a "Different" film. So as the music. The music package on a whole is full of "Shor Sharaba" by
Anu Malik, well supported by Ranjit Barot as Sound engineer. Gyulzar's
lyrics looks like flowers being produced in a Loha factory.... The saving
grace is excellent rendering by Big B in two of the songs(?) 1. Bhala
Bura and 2. Raam leela.... Big B's rendition provide the songs a life...
Its more of acting than singing that puts life in those two song. Another
song that stands out is Banda ye bindaas hai for its lively, catchy
and refreshing rythm and beats [Lifted from Mory Konti]. Kay Kay has
done a good job. Same can't be said for rest of the songs specially
"Ham bhool gaye hain rakh ke jise" where good lyrics are overshadowed
by heavy instrumentation and noises that produced in Loha factory. Anu
Malik's cut n paste continues as one of the mukhda of song "Raat
aati hai" by Shubha Mudgal is straight lift from Pancham's "Sharm
aati hai" from Padosan.... Check it out........
