Gulzar-Jagjeet Singh together once again Jagjit Singh and Gulzar saab recently teamed up again after 'Marasim' for yet another non film album of gulzar saab's poems sung by Jagjit Singh. The album is tentitively titled "Koi Baat Chale". Apart from gulzar saab's poems and ghazals, this album will feature jagjit singh's rendition of 'Trivenis' (3 liner peoms, a form unique to gulzar saab) for the first time. |

PAHELI : A Class Apart The listenings of Paheli music brings a refreshing change.. It is not one of the Kaal Dhamaals, or Dhoom Booms or the suger coated sweetners like Kal ho na ho, K3G or Main Hoon Naa's that have dominated the music space in the recent years still its one of the most honest (and authentic to an extent) attempts to create Rajasthani folk music that suits to a hindi film. Gulzar saab's lyrics are one of the high points of the album and the lines are tightly bound to the script. The instrumental pieces, interludes in almost all the songs is are the highlights of the album. Maine Tere Liye - Gulzar and Salil Chowdhary A new album is released on Saregama-HMV featuring the work of Gulzar and Salil da togehter.. "Maine Tere Liye". The album features some of the best songs of duo... The album starts with one of the best of Gulzar "Ganga aaye kahan se ganga jaaye kahan re" from Kabuliwala, the song which laid the foundation of a great team of Gulzar and Salilda [though their films together is only a single digit number].... Hemant da is as Godly as always... Then follows a great tandem love song... "Saawan ki raaton mein aisa bhi hota hai" from PremPatra sung by Talat and Lata.. A superb composition with great lyrics... "Maine tere liye hi saat rang ke sapne" is the third song of Side A... what makes this song special in this album is that HMV has included all three stanza's of the song including "roothi huee raaton ko manaya kabhi".. Another Interesting song included in Side A is a rare song from Pinjare ka Panchhi "Kubda chade ghodi" [singer Manna Dey and Meena Kapoor] The inlcusion of "Madbhari ye hawaayein [Lata-Anokha daan]" [Side B] makes this album great.. What a fantastic number is this.. But the ending of the album disappoints as HMV has put three songs of Swami Vivekanand one by one... O sanyasi could have ben replaced by other deserving numbers like "Ganga ki bhari god mein" from Mere Apne or Shaam se aankh mein from Mitti ka Dev or Gul khile ya na khile from Raat ki Uljhan? The album lacks on one more aspect which you feel is missing is gulzar saab's commentary.. His commentary would have turned this good album into a great tribute album cosidering his relationship with Salilda.... Still a worth buy.... |

DOGS S.M. Ausaja, who has been associated with Plus Channel, Channel Nine and Reliance in the past, will produce DOGS. This is his first project as a producer. DOGS will have music by Hridaynath Mangeshkar and lyrics by Gulzar. "The film will have four songs and two poems," the producer adds. DOGS will be directed by Mukul Abhyankar, who has worked with Ismail Merchant in the past, besides directing a couple of programmes for leading television networks in India. The film marks his directorial debut. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, the film will co-star Miss World Diana Hayden in a full-fledged, challenging role. | Saathiya Gulzar-Rahman's new film Saathiya's music is out and available... Saathiya is the debute directional venture of Shaad Ali (Son of Mujaffar Ali) presented by yashraj films. Saathiya, a Vivek Oberoi-Rani Mukherjee, Shahrukh Khan starrer, is a remake of tamil superhit "Alai payuthe"[[a maniratnam film]- Sakhi in Teleugu]. The TV Promos are airing the Title song "saathiya"... [Pachai nirme of Alai payuthe]. Alai payuthe was a good mix of melody and rythm and sounds youthful.... ARR won filmfare award for the film.. At the first listening, the album sounds great specially for those who haven't introduced to its its Tamil original Alaiyapayuthe ... Rahaman's compositions, gulzar's words and Singers rendering have blended together well... There are few surprises, one Punjabi song sung by Rahman [I bet if you dont take a look at credits, you wont know its Rahman], and one by Adnan Sami... Asha Bhosle's Chori pe chori is the one which doesn't feel as good as its Tamil original "September Madham" of Alaiyapuyuthu otherwise all songs are as good as Tamil album... The soundtrack of Makdee - the much-talked children's movie from producer and music director Vishal Bharadwaj, was released this week on Times music. Presented by Percept Picture Company, Makdee features Shabana Azmi, Makrand Deshpande and a double role by Shweta Prasad. It is written and directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, who bagged the Filmfare award for his music in "Maachis'' and the National Award for "Godmother.'' Gulzar has written the lyrics in Makdee and the cinematography is by Hemant Chaturvedi, who also shot for Company. | Gulzar to direct healthcare campaign | Pharmaceutical
major Ranbaxy Laboratories has roped in filmmaker Gulzar to direct and write
the lyrics of its consumer healthcare division's ad film.
Vishal Bhardwaj, musician of film Maachis, will compose music for the ad, which is being produced by Bobby Bedi, producer of Shekar Kapur's Bandit Queen, Atul Malhotra, head, Ranbaxy Global Consumer Healthcare business said here. Vinod Pradhan, cinematographer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas would play the same role while Kavita Krishnamurthy would lend her voice, he said. |

Filhaal - Filhaal, a film by debutant director Meghna Gulzar aka Bosky got released on 1st February, 2002 all across the globe. The music of Filhaal released recently in Mumbai on Saregama HMV. After assisting father Gulzar saheb in Hututu and Saeed Mirza, Filhaal marks the entry of another promising director of genetion next. Gulzar saheb has penned the tunes provided by Anu Malik (once again!) for the film starring Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Suri and Palash Sen (Euphoria fame). Story, Screenplay and Dialouges by Meghna Gulzar herself. The film is produced by Jhamu Saugand. The album features 7 songs and one instrumental version of the title number. The title number "Ye lamha filhaal jee lene de" is rendered by Asha Bhosle, while other numbers features the voices of Chitra, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sonu Nigam, Jaspinder Narula, KK and Palash Sen. Gulzar saheb is working with Lata Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar for Laal Salaam, a low budget film produced by Sanjeev Karambelkar and directed by Gaganvihari Borate. Nandita Das, Sharad Kapoor and Makarand Deshpande are the main stars in this high tension naxal drama. The audio was recently released on Universal. The album features 6 songs. Although the album stands below par of the expectations from the names of Lata, Hridyanath Mangeshkar and Gulzar saheb, Still it manages to get the attention of listener thru some of the good ones including "Zara sa thehro watan ki baat karein". "Mitwa" and "Hunkara" carries the label of Hridynath Mangeshkar not easily hummable [like always with HNM]. |

The first meeting of two renowned artists is titled as Visaal - Coming together of... The album is coming together of the poetry of Gulzar saheb and rendition by Ghulam Ali. The album features 8 ghazals of different flavours but woven around the theme of visaal(meeting). As for the poetry is concerned "Khushbu Gunche Talaash Karti hai" stands out from remaining numbers. Triveni - Gulzar saheb's latest poetry collection Triveni is out and available in Hindi and Urdu scripts. "Triveni" published by Rupa&co. features the collection of trivenis by Gulzar saheb. Triveni is an innovative form of peotry which is a bit different from the usual forms like sher and ghazal. Unlike shers, the trivenis are written with three misra's (three lines of poetry) where first two lines forms a complete sher and the introduction of third misra(line) gives the sher a new dimension or meaning.

Leela - Lemon Tree Production a Hollywood company, launched their maiden venture Leela, with Dimple Kapadia and Vinod Khanna in the lead cast. Gulzar saheb is providing lyrics for this international venture for the compositions tuned by Jagjeet singh and Shantnu Moitra(Abke saawan fame). The film, story of an Indian-Americal immigrant boy, will be shot at US in the coming months. Ashoka The Great's - Gulzar saheb penned songs for the high profile historical drama produced by Shahrukh-Juhi's dreamz unlimited and directed by ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan. Based on the historic war of Kalinga, the film has Shahrukh in the title role and Kareena Kapoor playing Kalinga Princess Karubaki. Anu Malik is the music director. The promos have already started on the small box with a song rendered by Chitra. The film is scheduled to be featured in a couple of film festivals (Venice, Toronto) prior to its realease in India on 26th october. |

Aks - Aks is the latest offering of Gulzar saheb as a lyricist. The music of Amitabh bachchan and Manoj Vajpayee starrer film was recently released by Saregama HMV. After the musical success of Fiza, Gulzar saheb is working again with Anu Malik. The unsual compositions for this unsual film took a while to find place on the charts. Now a couple of songs have stabelized their positions on the music charts including "Banda ye bindaas hai", "Ye raat" and "Rabba rabba". The title of the film "Aks" is also given by Gulzar. The film is debute directorial venture for ace film critic Khalid Mohammad featuring Jaya Bachchan, Karishma Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan in the lead roles. The film has music by Anu Malik and lyrics by Gulzar saheb. Gulzar saheb has penned 3 songs for the film, the title track "Tu fiza hai" by sonu nigam, the chartbuster "Aaja Mahiya" by Udit and Alka and a pretty good rendering by Jaspinder Narula in "Abhi to garm hai mitti, jism taaja hai". Anu Malik disappoints with the music in whole as some of the good tunes are wasted by some unwanted chorus insertions specially in the song "Aaj mahiya". - Gulzar and Kids, a bond forever - Kaayda is the outcome in the form of
a book of a very special project by an organization of Bhopal called "Aarushi".
Kaaydaa is abook with concept by gulzar, and paintings by handicapped children.
The book includes the paintings and drawing by 63 handicapped children on
the character set of Hindi language. Each character is represented by a
drawing. For example "Cha" is represented by a drawing of "Chidiya" created
by one of the children. The punch line of the book is "Bachchon ka banaya,
Bachchon ke liye". Gulzar saheb likhte hain "Phir se bachpan mein jaane ka shauq hua Phir se seekhne ka shauq hua aur is baar kisi adhyapak ke paas jaane ki bajaay mein bachchon ke paas chala gaya aur unse ye kaaydaa seekha. Unfortunately the release function scheduled for July 4th, 2006, had to be cancelled due to heavy rains in Mumbai. Omkara is yet another shakespeare adaptation by Vishal. This time he has chosen Othello and has chosen Easten UP's political background for the canvas of the story to paint the colors of Love, Jealousy, Passion and Crime. Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapur, Vivek Oberoi and Saif Ali Khan features in the prominent roles. The music of Omkara takes you to a world of unusual sounds, hard hitting

Yahaan is the latest album with gulzar saab's lyrics. Although the sound track features 8 songs, there are only two songs penned by gulzar saab for the film. The music is composed by Parinita fame Shantanu Moitra who has worked ealier with gulzar saab in Leela. The album starts with a typical romantic gulzarish number 'poochhe jo koi meri nishani, rang hina likhana'. Although the opening lines sounds similar to the stanza's of "Chupke se" of Saathiya, the song moves on in great style. "Kabhi kabhi aas paas chaand rahta hai
Amol Palekar's latest film 'Paheli' presents the poetry of gulzar saab and the soulful compositions of MM Kreem together for the first time. 'Paheli' is based on a Rajasthani folk tale of Sh. Vijay daan detha and features Shahrukh Khan and Raani Mukherjee in the lead. 
The sound track features six peppy numbers penned by Gulzar saab and composed by the trio of Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. The film features Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan together for the first time on the screen with Rani Mukherjee in the female lead. The highlight of the album is a peppy qawwali featuring Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya together on screen. The soundtrack listing is as below

the first listening "Ishqa Ishqa" looks promising... Quite different
from the usual releases flooding the market... Although Vishal has given
a lot of oppotunities to Rekha in Films like Chachi 420 (Ek wo din bhi
they), Jahan Tum le chalo (Ye kaisi chaap -excellent) still she is not
able to make a name despite being a good singer.. This album showcase
her talent and she has done justice with the songs... the two songs that
stand out is "Tere ishq mein" and "rang de".. Will

Chupke se is directed by debutant director Sona Urvashi, while sister
Mausami makes her debute in Hindi Films as the central character of a
restless, mischievous and extremely ambitious girl. Sona Urvashi is grand
daugher of PL Anand and Niece of Producer Gul Anand (Khatta Meetha, Chashme
Baddue and Jalwa). The film is expected in August.. 
A
tribute album titled "Gulzar remembers Kishore Kumar"
was released last week at a function in Mumbai. The album features Gulzar's
tribute to the legendary singer and contains Gulzar's commentary and 13
Kishore songs penned by Gulzar. The album is released by Saregama-HMV.

Makadi,
a new film directed by Vishal Bharadwaj [Music Director] will be released
soon. Gulzar saheb has written lyrics for the film featuring Shabana Azmi
in the title role. It will be first release of Vishal as Director, although
he started another film called "Birf" almost a year back but
that film was shelved du to financial problems. Prior to that Vishal had
tried his hands in Direction for a couple of episodes of a TV Serial "Gubbare".
